Frequently Asked Questions

This page serves as a FAQ guide to answer the questions I get asked the most. My general FAQ format is to provide the question, the short answer, and the the longer answer to provide context if it’s warranted.

Paid Work

Do you book paid work?

I used to, but currently I don’t anymore. But I will if the project is right. And because I’m not actively seeking or taking paid work at this time, I don’t really have my payment schedules ready to bring to a negotiation table. I also simply don’t have the gear available. I need to invest in a few more lenses and some lighting equipment. I can rent what I need easily enough, but it greatly increases the overhead costs and legwork, significantly raising my prices for a client as a result.

So as a blanket statement, I’m not marketing myself for booked work, but if I were approached with the right project under the right terms, I would definitely consider agreeing.

Can I hire you for drone work (real estate, land survey, etc.)?

I would love to take this work, but…not yet. Until I become FAA Part 107 certified, I am not permitted to use my footage commercially. Getting my 107 certification is a goal for this year (2019), however. So check back in the future.

What kind of paid work would you do?

In the past, I’ve offered my services to the local Seattle theatre community for portraits that actors could use for their headshots. I’ll definitely be comfortable offering that kind of work again in the future once I can invest in a great portrait lens, and maybe some essential lighting gear for indoor/studio work.

I’ve done a lot of interior photography as well, so I would be interested in working with clients for real-estate work. Again, I’ll be better equipped for this once I can invest in a wider angle lens and some lighting gear, and either a steadycam or gimbal (for video).

With the Mavic 2 Pro, again, real-estate and land survey is something I would love to offer my services with. But I need to become FAA Part 107 certified before anyone can make any money whatsoever from my drone footage.

Would you travel for work?

Yes, for the right project. Borders are not an issue: My passport is current, and I am in good border standing with a spotless criminal record.

Hobbies and Extracurricular

Tell me more about your medieval re-enactment?

Tierany and I are members of the Empire of Medieval Pursuits. The powers that be hate it when they get compared to the SCA, but if you know what the SCA is, it’s a similar thing, but a different game. The EMP is much smaller than the SCA, largely clustered around the Pacific Northwest of the United States, but we have branches all over the country.

Within the Empire, we currently have one kingdom, the Kingdom of Ardesca. Within the kingdom there are many branches. One such branch is Karma Legio, which is a Roman and Norse themed branch. Tierany and I are the current leaders of that branch, holding the title Lords Co-Consul.

If you want to learn more about the EMP, Ardesca, or Karma Legio, please follow those links. Additionally you will find some great places on Facebook:

Where have I seen you firebreathing…?

Tierany is a founding member of IGNITION Fire Troupe. Although I am not a member of the troupe, they graciously invite me to perform with them as a guest performer from time to time.

Most of the time, I perform with IGNITION where my firebreathing overlaps with my involvement with my local Burning Man community. So I have performed with IGNITION at Ignition Northwest’s (not to be confused with IGNITION Fire) annual burn, Critical Northwest in 2017 and 2018, and INW’s “decompression” and fundraising event Seacompression in 2018.

Outside of INW / Burning Man events, I also performed onstage with IGNITION at RadCon 7B in the Tri-Cities in 2018.

Finally, I’ve done some random firebreathing at major EMP events such as Ardesca Crown War and Ragnaroc.
